ABDALLAH ANWARJune 20 - The United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) have given a public warning to Abdallah Anwar, one of America's top boccia players, after he tested positive for a banned substance.

The 30-year-old from North Hollywood in California, tested positive last month for Hydrochlorothiazide and Chlorothiazide, diuretics which are considered to be a potential masking agent for drugs like anabolic steroids.

Anwar was taking the prescription medication Hydrochlorothiazide, in a therapeutic dose under the care of a doctor but failed to obtain a therapeutic use exemption in advance of taking the medication as required by the rules.

The presence of the medication and its metabolite, Chlorothiazide, in Anwar's sample resulted in the adverse analytical finding.

Anwar, a graduate of the University of Illinois and the Boston University, has won seven United States titles.
