Dame Sarah Storey with London 2012 gold medalsJune 30 - Dame Sarah Storey, Britain's most decorated female Paralympic athlete, has given birth to a daughter, she announced today.


The 35-year-old, who has won a total of 22 medals, including 11 gold, revealed the news on Twitter.  

She wrote: "So excited 2 announce the birth of our daughter...been amazing getting 2 know her!"

Dame Sarah, who was won born without a left hand, won five Paralympic gold medals as a swimmer at Barcelona 1992 and Atlanta 1996 before switching to cycling, where she has won six, including four gold. 

Dame Sarah is married to Barney, who rides as a sighted pilot and has himself won three Paralympic gold medals, including one at London 2012 where he helped Neil Fachie to a world record in the B1km time trial.

The pair met at an training camp before Athens 2004 when Dame Sarah was still a swimmer and Barney was starting out on his career as a pilot for riders who are either blind or have badly impaired vision.

After Athens Dame Sarah, looking for new challenges, took to cycling and started to attend regular training sessions at the Velodrome in Manchester where her and Barney grew close before marrying in 2007.
