Euro 2016 logoJune 26 - The logo for UEFA Euro 2016 was unveiled today in Paris, with the theme of "celebrating the art of football" at its heart, as France looks to create "the perfect canvas for the beautiful game" in three years time.

The logo for the next European Championships was unveiled by UEFA President and French football legend Michel Platini - who scored the first goal in France's 2-0 win over Spain in the final of the last European Championships to be held in France in 1984 - along with President of the French Football Federation, Noel Le Graet, and other dignitaries from the football world.

The centrepiece of the logo is the iconic Henri Delaunay trophy, named after the French administrator that was a major figure in the conception of the FIFA World Cup and the European Championships, draped in the colours of the French national flag.

Designed by Portuguese brand creators Brandia Central, who also designed the logo for the last European Championships in Poland and Ukraine last year, the symbol represents France's rich heritage of art in fusion with the nation's love of football, it is claimed.

"France has long been a source of inspiration for artists worldwide; in 1,080 days' time, between 10 June and 10 July, it will also supply the perfect canvas for the beautiful game," said FIFA.

There is also a separate branding identity, which depicts the Arc de Triomphe as goalposts and again fuses French culture with football-related symbols, such as pitch markings and tactical drawings.
