Generations for Peace logoJune 10 - Generations For Peace founder and chairman, Prince Feisal Al Hussein, and Generations For Peace co-founder and President, Princess Sarah Al-Feisal, attended a "Creating a Common Vision" seminar at the United Nations (UN) headquarters in New York alongside 400 participants, discussing ways to further progress peace and development through sport.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and outgoing International Olympic Committee President Jacques Rogge presented keynote speeches at the seminar, which was organised by the UN Office on Sport for Development and Peace (UNOSDP) and the IOC, with the support of the United States Olympic Committee (USOC).

The Forum discussed the integration and mainstreaming of sport in development and peace, as well as the culture of peace through sport, sport and social inclusion, sport and social development strategies, and how to capitalise on partnerships and networking, relating to the contribution that sport makes to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).

The MDG's are a UN initiative established at the Millennium Summit in 2000, setting out eight-long term goals which include eradicating poverty and extreme hunger, achieving universal primary education and developing a global partnership for development.

Prince Feisal said: "By providing unique training and continuous support and mentoring to more than 8,100 volunteer leaders of youth, Generations For Peace is using sport-based approaches in and advance with the mainstreaming of sport in development policies and strategies.

"Our Institute is conducting leading research in the field of sport for peace and development, evidenced by the high standard of Generations For Peace programme delivery and the organisation's focus on continuous learning and development."

Princess Sarah reinforced the message of the Forum, saying: "The Generations For Peace Institute is leading and supporting collaborative interdisciplinary research, and sharing knowledge and best practices across the peace-building community.

"By conducting, investing and disseminating the research produced in collaboration with some of the best universities in the world, our organisation is continuing to support the use of sport as a tool for social change and progressing towards 'Creating a Common Vision'."
