Henrik Sedin led the offence with two goals and an assist, while goalie Jhonas Enroth saved 26 of 27 shots, to take the IIHF Directorate Best Goalie Award.

Simon Hjalmarsson, Erik Gustafsson and Loui Eriksson also scored for Sweden, with Switzerland's loan goal coming from Roman Josi.

"It was a tight game," Sedin said.

"It could have gone either way, I felt.

"It was lucky we got our first two goals pretty quickly after their first one.

"After we scored our third, it felt pretty calm on the bench."

Although they had to settle for silver, it was Switzerland's first medal in 60 years.


"We had a really good start," said Swiss goalie Martin Gerber.

"We were confident, but then out of the blue they tied it up and then we had some penalties.

"We got lost for a while and had a hard time getting back on track."

The United States took the bronze medal of the tournament, beating Finland 3-2 in a shootout in the third-place game.

First period goals by Craig Smith and Paul Stastny, a game-winning shootout goal by Alex Galchenyuk and 36 saves by goalie John Gibson secured the nation's first medal in nine years.


Coach Joe Sacco was delighted with the result.

"At the end there, Gibson was outstanding," he said.

"We had only two days of preparation for this tournament and I thought our young group did a really good job.

"I told them after the game that the most impressive thing was...how we came together as a group."

Lauri Korpikoski scored twice in the third period for Finland.

Sweden's historic win now sees them sitting atop of the world rankings, with Finland still in second place and last year's leaders Russia in third after being eliminated in the quarterfinals.
