Sophie Pascoe 200513May 20 - Six-time Paralympic champion Sophie Pascoe has been named to head a seven-strong New Zealand team heading to the 2013 International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Swimming World Championships in Montreal in August.

The 20-year-old from Christchurch (pictured top), who had her left leg amputated below the knee at the age of two following a lawnmower accident, will be New Zealand's biggest medal prospect in the Canadian city after taking three gold medals at London 2012 in the S10 category four years after claiming three victories at Beijing 2008.

Pascoe is joined in the team by fellow Paralympic champions Mary Fisher, who took hold in the women's SM11 200 metres individual medley, and Cameron Leslie, who won the men's SM4 150m individual medley.

Also in the team is Daniel Sharp, who took silver in the men's SB13 100m backstroke at last summer's Games.

Nikita Howarth and Daniel Holt, who competed at London 2012 but missed out on a podium spot, have also been named on the team going to Montreal, while a new addition is Jesse Reynolds, who is aiming to compete at the Rio 2016 Paralympics.

Paralympics New Zealand head swim performance coach Jon Shaw has high hopes for the team at the World Championships, which take place from August 12 to 18.

"We are very excited about this team as we believe we have a great depth of experience and enthusiasm," he said.

"This event will provide a great testing ground to see where our performances sit on the international stage and we believe we have a high chance of success."
