Jenny Wiedeke 160513May 16 - The International Ski Federation (FIS) has named former International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) and International Hockey Federation (FIH) official Jenny Wiedeke as its new communications manager.

The 37-year-old American (pictured top), who has lived in Switzerland for the past 10 years, will officially begin her role on August 1 but will attend the FIS technical committee meetings in Cavtat-Dubrovnik next month.

"We are delighted to welcome Jenny Wiedeke as the FIS communications manager," FIS President Gian Franco Kasper said.

"It is an important role for FIS to communicate our extensive activities both internally within the FIS family and globally."

Wiedeke was the media relations and publications manager of the IIHF for eight years until after the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics.

She then took a break to take her Swiss mountain guide certification and later joined the FIH as communications manager – a role she has held for the past two years.

Wiedeke has been the media contact at more than 40 World Championship events, two Winter Olympics and one Summer Games during her career to date.

She explained she is now excited to be making the move to skiing.

"The position at FIS particularly appeals to me because it is a chance to use the professional skills that I have developed, while allowing me to return to my roots of growing up in a small mountain town in Colorado," Wiedeke said.

"I have learned that it takes something special to dedicate your life to working in sports - and something even more unique to be successful in an international federation."
