Adcock - who won a mixed doubles World Championships silver medal with Imogen Bankier at Wembley Arena in 2011 - will compete in the men's doubles with partner Andy Ellis and may also play alongside his fiancée and fellow national doubles number one Gabby White in the mixed doubles, providing they manage to successfully navigate phase two qualification.

Six-time national champion Rajiv Ouseph has been selected for the men's singles by Badminton England, along with Toby Penty, who also will be looking to secure his place at the World Championships through qualification.

Two women's doubles pairs - Lauren Smith with Gabby White and Kate Robertshaw with Heather Olver - will compete at the Championships, and Chris Langridge and Peter Mills join Adcock and Ellis in the men's doubles.

National champions Olver and Langridge have their place confirmed for the mixed doubles.

Jens Grill, England and GB Performance Director, said: "We know this Championships will be far harder than Wembley two years ago when the home crowd played a big part.

"But we will make sure the players have the best possible preparation.

"We will be looking to the experienced members of the squad, like Rajiv and Chris, to help the younger and less experienced members of the squad cope with the pressures of a World Championships, particularly one being played in such a passionate badminton country as China.

"It will be a stern challenge but Chris gave us a big surprise with his unexpected silver medal success two years ago and that is an achievement which can spur on the whole squad."

The Championships are due to take place from August 5 until 11 at the 10,000-seater TianHe Indoor Gymnasium in Guangzhou.
