75550485May 2 - Swimming Canada have named eight Olympians in their squad of 38 for the Universiade in Kazan this July, as many of the nation's student athletes take advantage of being encouraged to compete in both the Universiade and the World Championships in Barcelona just a fortnight later.

Beijing 2008 and London 2012 competitor Stephanie Horner will compete in the 200 metres butterfly in Kazan, along with fellow Olympian Savannah King, who will lead the way for Canada in the 400m and 800m freestyle.

Double world junior champion Brittany MacLean, who also competed at London 2012, is named in the squad, with Pan-Am Games bronze medallist Savannah King and Youth Olympics gold medallist Tera van Beilen, who will take part in the 100m and 200m breaststroke.

Swimming is Canada's most successful event in the history of the Summer Universiade, earning them 21 gold medals and 98 medals in total.

The 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan is due to on July 6 and runs through to July 17, with swimming events scheduled to take place from July 10 to the last day.
