159595291April 16 - Basketball's governing body FIBA have unveiled the dates for their second 3x3 World Tour, which is due to begin in Tokyo this July, and will travel across four continents before concluding in Istanbul in October.

The World Tour will also visit Czech Republic capital city Prague, Olympic capital Lausanne, 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games host city Rio de Janeiro and home city of the team defending their title, San Juan in Puerto Rico.

The FIBA 3x3 World Tour features teams from around the world representing their respective cities in five 12-team tournaments leading up to the final, which the 12 best teams from the five previous events gain qualification for.

FIBA Secretary General and International Olympic Committee (IOC) member Patrick Baumann said: "The first edition of the FIBA 3x3 World Tour proved a resounding success and one of the highlights of the 2012 season.

"Those who attended the tournaments were overwhelmed by the speed of the basketball on offer, and we have had many enquiries from players and organisers about participating in this year's 3x3 events.

"In 2013, we will continue to witness the growth of the discipline as we embrace new tournaments, countries and regions.

"Many people from our sport and beyond are calling for FIBA to continue its investment in 3x3 basketball and express their hopes that it becomes an Olympic discipline."
