National Lottery Anniversary RunApril 24 - The National Lottery Anniversary Run, a five-mile mass participation run this summer, will be the first sporting event to be held on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park following the conclusion of London 2012, it was announced here today.

The race, which will conclude in the Olympic Stadium, will be staged by Nova International and is due to take place on July 21.

The event will give up to 10,000 members of the public the chance to take part with entries to go on sale from 9:00am tomorrow (April 25) on a first come, first served basis.

The entries will be available at £27.50 ($42/€32) each, while Newham residents can enter a ballot for 750 free exclusive places.

The National Lottery Anniversary Run, which will see the Olympic Stadium used for the first time since the London 2012 Paralympic Closing Ceremony on September 9 last year, was launched here by Britain's double Olympic champion Mo Farah, who has given his backing the event.

"The National Lottery Anniversary Run will be a magnificent occasion," said Farah, who won the 5,000 and 10,000 metres at the London 2012 Olympics.

"It is fitting that the first people to run on the track since the end of London 2012 will be members of the British public, who did so much to make the Olympic and Paralympic Games such a success.

"Running down the home straight to win gold for Britain last summer was one of the greatest experiences of my life and it is wonderful that people will experience the chance to run on the track as part of The National Lottery Anniversary Run."

Building on last year's successful National Lottery Olympic Park Run, which was the first public event inside the Stadium, the five-mile route will take in iconic venues across the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Each of the 10,000 runners will be given the chance to bring two friends or family members to sit in the Olympic Stadium while there will also be a shorter family fun run that children can participate in - accompanied by an adult - with more than 2,000 places available.

Entries for the family fun run are prices at £7 ($11/€8) per entrant.

"The National Lottery Anniversary Run will be one of the great sporting events for the public to be part of this year," said chairman and founder of Nova International Brendan Foster, a bronze medallist in the 10,000m at the Montreal 1976 Olympics.

"To run in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and finish in the Stadium - following in the footsteps of legends such as Usain Bolt and Mo Farah - is a unique opportunity.

"I hope it will inspire a range of new people to participate in physical activity."
