The Dutch side, who defeated Britain at London 2012 on their way to the bronze medal, took a convincing 20-point victory despite missing influential forward Mariska Beijer, who is currently away studying, thanks in large part to Inge Huitzing who bagged 25 points with an 80 per cent success rate.

Britain were also missing a key player in Helen Freeman, also away studying for a degree, and were led by recently appointed coaches Joe Jayarante and Nigel Smith.

Netherlands head coach Gertjan van der Linden was happy with his team's attacking prowess during the match, saying: "We did a really good job in offence so of course when the ball is going in, we will always be happy but I liked the way we organised it."

Both sides featured new players, and the Dutch coach was pleased that his younger players took the opportunity to gain some vital experience.

"It's a practice game." van der Linden stressed

"So it is important that all the players can play these games and we did because we had two new players with us, from the youth team, they had a lot of minutes to play so that was good."

Britain's Amy Conroy was confident about the future of the team despite the defeat, hailing the impact made by Jayarante and Smith since they took up their new roles.

"I think the coaches are great and we've got a load of new players," she said.

"I think we are playing well together and reading other well.

"The coaches have made some great changes so the future of this team will be good I think."

Both teams are preparing for the European Championships, which is due take place from June 28 to July 7 in Frankfurt.
