Hotel New Takanawa TokyoApril 13 - A sense of anticipation is building here today on the eve of a landmark announcement which will see the merging of the International Baseball Federation (IBAF) and the International Softball Federation (ISF), with the newly-formed World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) also set to launch its campaign to re-gain a place on the Olympic sports programme for 2020.


The campaign will be officially announced at a press conference at 4pm tomorrow local time, with a logo, motto, social media plan of action and a new website set to be unveiled by IBAF President and new WBSC co-President Riccardo Fraccari, who will chair the Congress.

ISF President and Fraccari's fellow WSBC co-President Don Porter is also here for the announcement, as well as Commissioner of Congress hosts Nippon Professional Baseball, Ryozo Kato, and IBAF vice-President and son of former Cuban leader Fidel Castro, Antonio Castro.

The IBAF Executive Committee will also be determined this weekend, with the Italian Fraccari standing uncontested for Presidency.

A new secretary general will also be sworn-in, with Israel's Roldan Gonzalez, American Paul Seiler, Hong Kong's Felix Wai Kwong Yip and Venezuela's Edwin Zerpa Pizzorno all in the running.

There are two candidates for the position of treasurer: Belgium's Rene LaForce and San Marino's Angelo Vicini.

Numerous candidates will vie for the positions of first, second and third vice-President, as well as three member at-large positions.
