With the men competing over 15 kilometres, Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympian Robin Duvillard (pictured top, centre) finished in 37min 37.31sec to claim the gold medal in what he said was "a great race".

"For us it was a very important race this year because we are in France and so it was important for our team," he told insidethegames.

"It was one of my main goals of the season.

"I'm very happy that all my teammates are on the podium.

"It's amazing."

Ivan Perrillat Boiteux (pictured top, left) won the silver medal in 37:43.02 and explained how the trio's victory was so important today.

"A great team work from the French team," he said.

"It's great to be here in France, all of us together and to bring up the army colour."


Mathias Wibault (pictured top, right) finished with the bronze medal and said it was "amazing" to be with his friends on the podium after completing the race in 37:55.80.

Surprisingly, Switzerland's Olympic champion in the discipline and 2013 World Championships gold medallist Dario Cologna failed to medal, finishing in tenth place in 39:11.18.

Meanwhile, it was a 10km race for the women where Coraline Hugue won the gold in 29:42.7, two-time World Championship medallist Anaïs Bescond took silver in 29:44.9 and Anouk Faivre-Picon – winner of the team sprint on Tuesday – secured the bronze in 30:38.1.
