144076126March 29 - Buenos Aires' bid to host the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games has received full support from all parties in the Buenos Aires City Parliament following an overwhelming majority vote, as the announcement of the winning bid city for the third Summer Youth Games city draws closer.


Following a presentation of the Argentine capital's 2018 bid plan, a majority vote was secured in the city Parliament and members approved a "Declaration of Endorsement" for Buenos Aires 2018's bid.

Mauricio Macri, Head of Government of Buenos Aires City, spoke of the high level of public support for the Youth Olympic Games bid.

"The people of Buenos Aires are showing their will and desire to bring the Youth Olympic Games to Buenos Aires and the city has demonstrated its firm commitment to support this wish." he said.

"The city Government has fully approved the bid and, through the Bid Committee, has dedicated a huge amount of time, effort and real investment to ensure the Games Plan creates the perfect environment for all athletes, their coaches and families, YOG fans, the media, members of the Olympic Family and the community at large.

"The Buenos Aires City Parliament is ready to provide full and strong support for our bid to host the 2018 YOG."

Francisco Irarrazaval, Buenos Aires Under-Secretary of Sport and chief executive of Buenos Aires 2018, thanked the City Parliament for their support and spoke of the importance of securing the endorsement.

"With just 100 days to go until the IOC announces the Host City for the 2018 YOG, we would like to offer our thanks to the members of the Buenos Aires City Parliament for pledging their wholehearted support to our Youth Olympic Games bid." he said.

"It gives us great confidence that the bid has received the parliamentary Declaration of Endorsement and it highlights that the 2018 YOG is a priority for the city and the nation.

"We are very pleased that there is absolute commitment to our bid and it has unconditional support from all levels of Government.

"There is a united effort to help Buenos Aires win the right to host the YOG in 2018."

The winning bid city is due to be announced on July 4 in Lausanne, where Buenos Aires will face rivals Glasgow and Medellín.
