Surfers Paradise BeachMarch 18 - Gold Coast 2018 have revealed that they will unveil the new logo for their Commonwealth Games with a special community celebration at Surfers Paradise Beach on April 4.

Surfers Paradise Beach is the Gold Coast's entertainment centre while the suburb is one of Australia's iconic coastal tourist destinations.

The unveiling date will mark exact five years to go to the start of Gold Coast 2018 and Australia's Minister for the Commonwealth Games Jann Stuckey said the unveiling event would be a historic occasion for the city.

"Locals and visitors are invited to show their pride and be a part of the launch set against the Gold Coast's stunning backdrop of Surfers Paradise Beach from 7.00am," said Stuckey.

"The emblem will symbolise to world the Gold Coast's distinct character and unique attributes while highlighting the Commonwealth Games as one of the world's great international sporting events.

"This will be a momentous occasion in the city's history and the emblem unveiling ceremony will be spectacular."

The logo will be central to the Gold Coast 2018 visual identity programme and following the unveiling, it will be featured across the city as a constant reminder of its status as host city of the 21st Commonwealth Games.

Gold Coast 2018 chairman Nigel Chamier claimed the logo unveiling represents another important milestone in planning and delivering the Commonwealth Games.

"The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games will be the biggest event staged in Australia this decade with the city and all it has to offer on show to the world," said Chamier.

"For decades, the Gold Coast has been famous for fun. In five years' time, the Gold Coast will be famous for fun – and Games."

The unveiling comes over 16 months after the Gold Coast were awarded the event at the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) General Assembly in St Kitts and Nevis in November 2011 when they held off sole rivals Hambantota of Sri Lanka by 43 votes to 27.
