The 30-year-old fighter from Leeds produced a stunning performance at ExCeL as she took gold at London 2012 with a victory over China's world number one Ren Cancan in the final to secure a place in the record books.

The debut of female boxing at the London 2012 Olympics comes just ahead of the sport's first appearance at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow next year and Adams says she is already targeting another gold medal at the event when she competes for Team England.

"It would be really nice to have another history-making medal under my belt and I really want to achieve that next year," Adams told Commonwealth Games England.

"Glasgow 2014 is going to be my main focus.

"I've always believed you have to aim high and I'm aiming to try and get gold."


Women's boxing was announced as part of the Glasgow 2014 sports programme at the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) General Assembly last year.

The three medal weights for women will be flyweight, lightweight and middleweight, which were the same three categories that appeared at London 2012.

"The Commonwealth Games will be fantastic for boxing, definitely," Adams said.

"I think London 2012 definitely gave boxing a massive boost – participation has increased, and I myself have seen a lot of changes.

"A lot of people have taken up the sport and started boxing which is fantastic.

"It feels fantastic to be able to do so much for a sport that I'm really passionate about and love doing.

"To think that I could possibly achieve another first again next year is fantastic.

"It could be another bit of icing to add to my cake."
