Nasser Al-Attiyah with gunFebruary 12 - Qatari sports star Nasser Al-Attiyah, the rally driver and shooter who won bronze at the London 2012 Olympics, will be speaking this week as part of the National Sport Day celebrations across the country today.


National Sport Day is an annual sport event in Qatar held on Tuesday in the second week of February after it was created by Deputy Emir and Heir Apparent HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to encourage people across the country to participate in sport.

The National Sport Day will be followed by a week of celebrations with Al-Attiyah set to provide one of the highlights when he holds a meeting with journalists at the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) Sports Zone Media Centre in Doha.

The 42-year-old from Doha shot to stardom as he won the Dakar Rally in 2011 five years after winning the Production World Rally Championship (PWRC) in 2006.

But his star rose even further when he won bronze in the men's skeet event at London 2012.

Al-Attiyah, who is also a double Asian Games gold medallist, is set to help promote National Sport Day by underlining the values of taking part in sport.
