Qatar School Sports DayFebruary 13 - Qatar's National Sport Day has been hailed a huge success after thousands of men, women, children and persons with disabilities celebrated the event across the country.


National Sport Day is an annual sport event in Qatar held on Tuesday in the second week of February after it was created by Deputy Emir and Heir Apparent HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to encourage people across the country to participate in sport.

National Sport Day officially started with the VIP Walk in the capital Doha with the participation of high ranking officials including His Excellency Sheikh Saoud Bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani, secretary general of the Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) and Australia's five-time Olympic swimming champion Ian Thorpe.

Events at the QOC Sports Zone drew men, women and children to a wide variety of sports and created a festive atmosphere, further enhancing the values of Qatar's National Vision 2030.

"The National Sport Day is a great opportunity for families to learn more on so many different sports, practice activities and adopt a healthy lifestyle", said a participant at the activities held at the Sports Zone.

"It is a great day for Qatar."

Another highlight of the day was the launch of the "Be Fit" competition, which saw participants commit to a weight losing process.

The Sports Zone will remain open until February 16 to give more people the opportunity to participate and learn more on the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
