jodyFebruary 13 - Jody Cundy is recovering from minor injuries after becoming the latest high profile Olympic/Paralympic cyclist to suffer a collision with a vehicle on the roads, saying he was "lucky to walk away" from the accident.

The 34-year-old from Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, whose hopes of adding further Paralympic gold at the London 2012 Games to the ones he had previously won in Paralympic swimming and cycling were frustrated by a controversial disqualification at the start of the Ikm time trial, was involved in a road traffic accident while training in Majorca near Santa Maria Del Cami.

Cundy, who raged against the London decision but then apologised and recovered his composure to earn bronze in the 4 kilometres pursuit, injured his hand, knee and elbow.

But he will remain on the island until the end of his training camp on Friday (February 15).

"It was a very busy and I was following a car that was obviously looking for somewhere to park," Cundy said.

"Approaching a space the car slowed down and indicated right, at which point I decided it was safe to overtake and continue on my way.

"However as I began my overtaking the car pulled to the left instead, which left me with nowhere to to go and I ended up punted off the road and into the verge on the side.

"Thankfully I am in one piece and the bike survived mostly intact.

"I have had some close encounters with cars in the UK in the past, but luckily always managed to stay on the bike. It is almost part and parcel of being a professional cyclist and I was quite lucky yesterday to walk away with only a few cuts and bruises."
