Dublin was confirmed as the sole bidder for the competition and the Irish Amateur Boxing Association (IABA) gave a full presentation to the EUBC Executive Committee at their meeting last month as they looked to host the event scheduled for autumn this year.

However, the International Boxing Association (AIBA) recently created a ruling which says all Confederations, including the EUBC, must now hold their continental championships in the same year as World Championships.

Given that the Women's World Championships will take place next year, the EUBC Executive Committee took the decision to comply with the AIBA ruling rather than award the event to the Irish capital.

"From now on, all Confederations must hold their continental championships in each category the same year as AIBA holds their World Championships," an EUBC spokesperson told insidethegames.

"Since the next AIBA Women's World Championships will be held in 2014, we need to hold our Women's European Championships next year.

"Members of EUBC Executive Committee took decision to comply with the new AIBA competition guidelines and to postpone the organisation of this event to next year."


The decision has been criticised by Peter Taylor, the father and coach of Taylor, the reigning lightweight Olympic champion and the women that was set to be the star attraction of the Championships in Dublin.

"She'll ask me what we are training for," Peter Taylor the Irish Times.

"Katie's going to say: 'I could have taken those months off'.

"What a joke."

Despite the move, Dublin is likely to be one of the strangest contenders to secure the 2014 Women's Boxing European Championships if they move for the event.

Taylor is set to make her first competition return to the win since her Olympic triumph when the 26-year-old from County Wicklow takes on Karolina Graczyk of Poland at the Citywest Hotel in Dublin on February 22 in a fight that will form part of finals night for the Irish Elite Championships.

The Irishwoman, who is also a four-time world champion and a five-time European champion, will then be in action two days later when she takes on German Maike Klueners at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre in Dublin.

A further contest against Ukrainian Yulia Tsiplakova is planned for the same venue on March 22.
