Paul BushJanuary 4 - Paul Bush, the leader of the Glasgow 2018 Youth Olympic Games bid, believes the city is now in a strong position to secure the prestigious competition following the huge success of the London 2012 Olympics and Paralympics.

Glasgow 2018 is currently in a competitive race with Buenos Aires, Guadalajara, Medellín and Rotterdam for the right to stage the third Summer Youth Olympic Games.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) are due make a decision on where the competition will be held in Lausanne on July 4 but Bush believes the Glasgow 2018 bid can be confident after London 2012 demonstrated that the United Kingdom can deliver great sport.

"On the back of London 2012, there is huge confidence in the UK's ability to deliver world class events," Bush told insidethegames.

"The UK does that every week of every year and Glasgow itself does that every week of every year.

"Our team of local and international experts has drawn on experience, insight and best practices from London 2012.

"We are also working closely with the Organising Committee for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

"All this together is helping us produce an offering for the Olympic Family that is robust and low-risk, but also innovative and truly visionary."

The 2018 Youth Olympic Games bid race is now entering a crucial stage with the IOC Executive Board due to announce the shortlisted Candidate Cities next month at its next meeting in Lausanne on February 12 and 13.

Following formal presentations, the IOC Evaluation Commission chaired by Germany's Claudia Bokel will file a report on the Candidate Cities before the full IOC membership elects a host city.

But Bush hopes that the Glasgow 2018 bid now has a major trump card in London 2012 chairman Sebastian Coe.

Coe BOAPaul Bush believes new BOA chairman Sebastian Coe could play an important role for the Glasgow 2018 bid

Coe was elected British Olympic Association (BOA) chairman in November meaning that he becomes directly involved with the Glasgow 2018 campaign and after taking the London 2012 bid to victory.

Bush hopes he can do the same for the Scottish city.

"Seb can definitely provide further impetus for the bid due to his huge stature with the IOC following London 2012," Bush said.

"He is obviously heading up the UK's Olympic legacy programme [after being appointed to the role by Prime Minister David Cameron] and he has a huge passion for young people getting into sport.

"From the discussions I have had with Seb, he is a huge advocate of the Youth Olympic Games so his presence can only be positive."
