The WSB, which is owned by the International Boxing Association (AIBA), is in its third season and is currently the only boxing competition in the world that allows fighters to compete professionally and retain their Olympic eligibility.

The British Lionhearts are making their debut this season and have so far won three of their four matches, with Evans, one of the franchises' headline attractions, having won both of his two WSB matches so far.

The Lionhearts have made no secret of their attempts to secure reigning Olympic super heavyweight champion Joshua, who is currently considering offers, while bantamweight Olympic champion Luke Campbell is also on their radar, although he is competing in the upcoming ITV series of Dancing On Ice.

But Evans is hopeful that the pair will join the Lionhearts in the near future.

"It would obviously be great to see Anthony and also Luke join the WSB," Evans told insidethegames.

"The more boys with Olympic experience in the WSB the better as far as I'm concerned.

"The WSB is a team event and you become close with your teammates so it would be great for me to have my old Team GB teammates back.

"They are both great boxers.

"But I think they are just working out what is best for them at the moment and I'm not really too sure what they are going to do.

"We will just have to wait and see but the WSB is definitely a good option for them."


The 21-year-old from Cardiff, who also won gold at the European Championships last year, revealed that he is enjoying life in the WSB and says he is glad he signed for the Lionhearts despite getting several offers from professional promoters.

"I could have turned professional but after sitting down and talking with the coaches, the WSB seemed like the best decision for me and I'm enjoying it," he said.

"It is a good set up and we are staying up in Sheffield using the GB Boxing facilities which are some of the best around.

"I've signed up for this season and I haven't decided what I will do after that.

"I could stick to this after this season or I could turn professional but it is something I need to look at properly.

"People are always ask me about staying on for the Rio 2016 Olympics and that is something that is on the back of my mind but it is a long way off so it is not something I'm concentrating on too much right now."

Of the London 2012 Team GB boxers, only Olympic bronze medallist Anthony Ogogo has turned professional so far after he signed with Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions earlier this week.
