Franke Fredericks head and shouldersNovember 19 - Four-time Olympic silver medallist Frankie Fredericks has been re-elected as President of Athletics Namibia at the annual meeting in Ongwediva.


The 45-year-old, silver medallist in the 100 and 200 metres at both Barcelona 1992 and Atlanta 1996, had first been elected four years ago.

Fredericks, who won the world 200m title in 1993, is now one of the most powerful sports administrators in Africa.

He is a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), having served for four years as chairman of the Athletes' Commission until he stepped down at London 2012 but continues to sit on the influential Programme Commission.

Fredericks was also a member of the IOC Coordination Commission which oversaw the preparations for London 2012.

Last year Fredericks was elected as a member of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Council.
