Tim NewenhamNovember 16 - British Shooting's performance director, Tim Newenham, has been appointed as the new chief executive of the Guernsey Sports Commission (GSC), it has been announced. 


Newenham has worked as a consultant for the GSC for the past year.

He is also a former UK Athletics javelin coach and spent five years as Tim Henman's strength and conditioning advisor, during which time he rose from 154th in the world rankings to fifth. 

"Tim's extensive knowledge and expertise will bring a valuable contribution to Guernsey sport," said GSC chairman Stuart Falla.

"He is one of the UK's most respected coaches and over the years has been instrumental in the performance development of many of Britain's top athletes."

The GSC is responsible for developing sport in Guernsey and gives bursaries and support for coaching and equipment in the island.

Newenham's first target is the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where Guernsey will be aiming to win its first medal since Auckland in 1990. 

"Having assisted the commission over the past year, I am absolutely delighted to take up the post of CEO and be part of a great team of people, where we are all committed to developing sporting opportunities and developing sporting talent on Guernsey," he said.

"I see my skills adding to those of the team and together we can develop and extend the great work that Guernsey Sports Commission is undertaking which currently ranges from delivering PE in primary schools, to ensuring a fit and well prepared team are involved at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games."
