Soslan TigievNovember 7 - Uzbekistani wrestler Soslan Tigiev has been stripped of the Olympic bronze medal he won in the 74-kilogram freestyle class at London 2012 after failing a drugs test, it has been announced.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) revealed that the 29-year-old had tested positive for the banned performance-enhancing substance, methylhexaneamine, a dietary supplement, after the event on August 10.

The bronze medal will now be awarded to Hungarian Gabor Hatos, who Tigiev had defeated in one of two bronze medal matches.

The decision to strip Tigiev of the medal was taken by an IOC Disciplinary Commission chaired by Germany's Thomas Bach and consisting of Switzerland's Denis Oswald and Sweden's Göran Petersson.

Tigiev had also won a silver medal at Beijing in 2008, but that result is not affected by today's decision.

Tigiev becomes the ninth athlete to test positive at London 2012 but only the second to be stripped of a medal because of a doping violation.
