Medelln 2018_bid_logoSeptember 11 - Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos Calderón has signed all the Government guarantees needed for Medellín's bid to host the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games. 


The necessay documents, which are required by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) when Medellín submits its bid book on October 15, were signed at the National Exports Congress, an annual event promoting Colombian foreign trade hosted by the National Association of Exterior Commerce (ANALDEX).

Medellín 2018 chief executive Juan Camilo Quintero Medina received an envelope from Santos containing the guarantees in front of more than 1,000 delegates. 

Quintero was also asked by the President to address the Congress.

Medellín is bidding against Buenos Aires, Glasgow, Guadalajara, Poznan and Rotterdam, with the IOC due to announce the host city at a meeting next June. 

"We are working resolutely . now we have to work hard in the dossier for October," said David Mora, director of the Institute of Sports and Recreation of the City of Medellin.
