Barney Storey_and_Neil_Fachie_1_SeptemberSeptember 1 - There were golds for both members of the Storey household in the Velodrome on Saturday as husband and wife Barney and Sarah claimed impressive victories.

Barney Storey, riding with Neil Fachie (pictured top, left and right), set a world record of 1min 01.351sec this morning as the British duo won gold in the men's individual B 1km time trial, but there was more false start controversy in their event.

Just after Fachie and Storey smashed the world record by almost three quarters of a second British world champions Craig Maclean and Anthony Kappes failed to get away properly due to a chain malfunction.

The unlucky pair were then disqualified after the restart as the chain yet again failed them, meaning they suffered the same fate as Jody Cundy yesterday in the men's C4/C5 1km time trial.

Cundy was furious after being disqualified after he had trouble moving away from the starting gate, and called for the International Cycling Union (UCI) to clarify the restart rule.

With five false starts in total during the morning event, the issue is threatening to overshadow some of the stunning world records being set and gold medals won.

Maclean (pictured above, on right), an Olympic silver medallist alongside fellow Scot and six-times Olympic gold medallist Sir Chris Hoy in the team sprint in Sydney 12 years ago, said: "It was a mechanical failure ultimately.

"In the heat of competition we were probably trying harder than we've ever done before and the bike was just not up to the job.

"There was disbelief.

"We tried to argue with the start judge that we wanted to carry on but he had fired the gun.

"He possibly could have bent the rules."

Silver went to Spanish pair Jose Enrique Porto and José Antonio Villanueva, who had set a Paralympic record before Fachie and Storey's ride, while Dutch duo Rine Oost and Patrick Bos took the bronze.

Storey's wife, Sarah (pictured below), who won Britain's first Paralympic Games gold on Thursday (August 30), followed that up in the women's individual C4-5 500m time trial with another victory.

She beat Jennifer Schuble of the United States to win her ninth Paralympic gold medal and close on Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson's record of 11.

China's Jianping Ruan claimed bronze.

For Cundy there was more heartbreak in today's C4 individual time trial.

His dreams of a gold on home soil to add to the five swimming and cycling Paralympic titles he already has were dashed by Jiří Ježek of the Czech Republic.

Cundy was racing against Romania's Carol-Eduard Novak, and could not keep up the pace as his rival set a stunning world record of 4:40.315.

The Briton could still have made the final and a rematch with Novak, but his time was not quite good enough to edge out Ježek, and Cundy was forced to settle for the bronze ride-off against Diego Duenas of Colombia.

Cundy took out his frustration on the Colombian, eventually catching Duenas to secure the bronze.

In the gold medal race Novak looked in control throughout, claiming the title with ease.

In the C5 individual pursuit, Britain's Jon-Allan Butterworth was forced to settle for his second silver of the Games after Australia's Michael Gallagher took control of their final.

It was a tight contest for much of the race, but as it reached its conclusion the Australian edged his way closer to victory with Butterworth unable to catch him.

The day's other race, the women's C1-2-3 500m time trial, saw China's Yin He capture gold in a world record time of 39.158, with Alyda Norbruis of the Netherlands taking silver.

Australia's Jayme Paris took silver in her run-off with American Allison Jones, a Paralympic alpine ski gold medallist-turned-cyclist.
