Jonnie Peacock_1_JulyJuly 1 - British sprint star Jonnie Peacock has sent a major warning to rivals Oscar Pistorius of South Africa and Jerome Singleton of America ahead of the London 2012 Paralympics after he set a sensational world record of 10.85sec in the T44 100 metres.

The T44 100m is set to be the blue-riband event of the Paralympics this September and before Peacock's world record, reigning Paralympic champion Pistorius and reigning world champion Singleton were predicted to be the two athletes that would fight it out for gold.

However, the 19-year-old from Cambridge (pictured top, in blue) has shown that he may well crash the party after running the blistering time in Indianapolis after being invited to compete there as a guest during the US track and field Paralympic trials.

He led home a hugely talented field that included Singleton (pictured below), former T44 world record holder Marlon Shirley and the highly talented Blake Leeper, who was the fastest American as he finished second behind Peacock in 10.95.

"This was only my fifth race this year," said Peacock, who could now be the one to watch at London 2012.

"I've had head winds for the two decent races I've run.

"All I've been asking for is a tail wind and I finally got one."

Peacock lost his right leg below the knee after contracting meningococcal septicaemia at the age of five but was spotted at a ParalympicsGB talent identification camp in 2008 and invited to join up with UK Athletics shortly after.

He displayed his immense talent by finishing fifth in the T44 100m final at the Christchurch 2011 IPC World Athletics Championships last January behind Singleton and Pistorius but he has now shown he is the man to beat.

Pistorius (picutred above left), who beat Peacock (pictured right) at the BT Paralympic World Cup in May, took to twitter to offer his congratulations.

"Well done, great to see progress in the sport!" said Pistorius, who will be looking to defend his T44 100, 200 and 400m titles at the Paralympics.

"Looking forward to a very fast race at London 2012."

The T44 100m final line-up at London 2012 could now see Peacock, Pistorius, Singleton, Leeper and South African Arnu Fourie in the blocks together in what would arguably be the most anticipated race in Paralympic sport.

Fourie is a dark horse after the 27-year-old ran 11.09 in February this year and a month later became only the second person in eight years, after Singleton, to defeat Pistorius over T44 100m.
