"That was definitely one of our best performances," said Roe.

"We have never had to come from behind with 250 metres to go.

"Obviously, we have practised that in training but we've never had to use it."

Coming into the closing stages of the race it was stroke for stroke between these two powerful crews.

Britain pushed through the Germans to claim gold, while Germany took the silver and Ukraine took bronze.

In what was the last international regatta before the London Paralympics get underway, Alia Lysenko of Ukraine maintained her unbroken record of wins in taking gold in the AS women's single sculls.

Brazil's world bronze medallist Claudia Santos took silver, with Liudmila Vauchok of Belarus holding off France's Nathalie Benoit for the bronze.

Britain's world and Paralympic champion, Tom Aggar, was absent from racing in Munich, and victory on the day went to Australia's Erik Horrie, who showed that he is ready to challenge for gold at this summer's Games.


Horrie stayed ahead of the field throughout his race, with Korea's Jun-Ha Park taking silver and Britain's Andrew Houghton (pictured above) claiming bronze.

Australia's mixed double sculls crew of Gavin Bellis and Kathryn Ross overtook France in the closing stage of their race to achieve a gold medal, with the French holding on for silver ahead of Ukraine.
