Rafael Medeiros and Mauricio Pomme (pictured above) won the men's doubles event, while women's pair Natália Mayara and Rejane Candida claimed victory in their tournament.

Mayara also reached the final of the women's singles, where she lost to Frenchwoman Charlotte Famin 6-4, 1-6, 6-4.

Both Pomme and Medeiros reached the semi-finals of the men's singles, losing to Frenchmen Lahcen Majdi and Serge Biron respectively.

The tournament was the final qualifier for this summer's Paralympics, and their success means that Brazil go into the Games on a high.

"Our players are at a high level of competitiveness," insisted Cavalcante.

"An international event is always more difficult, all athletes have very similar technique and physical condition."


Cavalcante paid particular praise to Mayara (pictured above), and hopes she will join the men's quartet of Medeiros, Pomme, Carlos Alberto and Daniel Rodriguez in London for the Paralympics.

"The result of Natália left us very satisfied," he said.

"In addition to the four athletes already confirmed, we hope that Natalie can be the first woman to represent the country at the Games."

Even if she does not make it, Brazil's wheelchair tennis delegation will be the largest in the country's Paralympic history.

Brazil's wheelchair tennis players did not medal at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games.
