Alhasan's suspension comes less than a week after a fellow powerlifter, Brazil's Claudemar Santin, was also banned for two years following a similar offence at the Parapan American Games last November.

The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) revealed that Alhasan tested positive for Methylhexaneamine both at the IPC Powerlifting Open International Championship in Amman, Jordan last July, and the IPC Khorfakkan International 3rd Championship in the United Arab Emirates in October.

Both cases are considered as one anti-doping rule violation because the second sample was collected before Alhasan was told of the result from the first.

The Syrian has waived the right to a hearing and accepted her punishment, which will date back to her first violation on July 22 2011, and will also pay a fine of €1,500 (£1,270/$2,010).
